Government of Jamaica is promising to significantly develop some of the country's deep rural communities
KINGSTON, Jamaica… September 21, 2014

Senator Norman Grant, President of the Jamaica Agricultural Society says, The Jamaica Agricultural Society welcomes the announcement by the Prime Minister of Jamaica, The Most Honourable Portia Simpson Miller; that the Government of Jamaica is promising to significantly develop some of the country's deep rural communities, which for generations have not had the benefit of critical state services and resources and that a National Rural Development Task force has been established to advance this process of improvement, with an aim to create for the rural citizenry a more economic and social advancement in our rural communities and the promotion of community and eco-tourism. Senator Grant says “Jamaica Agricultural Society believes that there is an untapped rural economy that, if expanded, can play a critical role in Jamaican economic transformation and can be the bedrock for Jamaica to gain economic independence.”

The Jamaica Agricultural Society also welcomes the announcement that the rural development trust will be dedicated to the memory of former Agriculture Minister Roger Clarke who recently passed away.
